Heriot Watt Degree Show 2023

It feels like years since I've been to a Degree show. But 'tis the season as Students finish up for the summer. One of my favourite shows to hit is Textile Design, something I almost pursued in my 20s. I particularly love looking at students sketchbooks and reading about their concepts, how they told a story through their art.

I think I would pursue contemporary Textiles if I had the chance. I would love to get back into that area when I get a bigger space to work in. I have ideas bigger than my current space allows, which is why working with found photographs is ideal for me for now. I would love to enlarge a lot of the images I work with and mess around with them. I have always dreamed of an eventual studio space!

I came away from this Degree show with a couple of ideas for my own work. Techniques to experiment with that I can make my own. It's one of the best thing we can do as artists, look at the world through someone else's eyes and find a fresh perspective to interpret our own. I wish all those graduating all the best for their future!
